About Sam
Sam Schrott’s ceramic work, both wheel thrown and hand built, explore the functions, limitations and types of interactions we have with ceramic objects. His functional and decorative work ranges from the traditional to the experimental and exploratory. In Schrott’s sculptural work, he incorporates various building techniques and materials to construct abstract explorations of natural and industrial figures and landscapes. Schrott has particular interest in incorporating naturally and locally sourced clay and materials to bridge a connection between form and place.
Out of college, Sam worked for Wolf Ceramics where he became proficient in production pottery, throwing upwards of 100 pieces a day. Wanting to explore his creativity, he opened his first studio called Kerby Alley Studios with two other artists. After a major flood in the building that made his space uninhabitable, he moved and started a new multi-diciplinary art studio called Clay St. Studios with fellow ceramic artist James Houghton and musician Eli Goldberg who makes music under the alias Ann Annie.
